Hi there, Reilly Scribbner here to share another imaginary story with you, and I am proud to celebrate National Hispanic Heritage Month (September 15 through October 15).

We say it all the time, but that's who we are. That's the Nation. We are a nation of immigrants. A nation of immigrants. Over at my house, we are proud to celebrate our friends and family across diverse backgrounds and foster an inclusive culture both ways. But we never prepared to stay with a little Mexican girl that totally looked like Perry the Platypus! Is dedicating only a month every year to honor Latino culture just another example of "Hispandering"?

I looked up her name, which is Callidrake Mederrin. She is a playful (and sometimes quick-tempered) platypus with a curious spirit that goes hand-in-hand with her love of helping others and sharing what she learns through her adventures. She is a gifted musician who plays drums and accordion, as well as a Spanish guitar handed down from her parents. She does have a more serious side, such as if she or her friends or possessions are in danger, and her trying hard to protect herself or anyone else from getting hurt. She also does not like anyone or anything that she thinks would "mess with Mexico" (meaning that she can’t stand anything that tries to make fun of or mock about her culture and heritage).

Though Callidrake is very kind (most of the time), she has a habit of being competitive and overly ignorant, doing before thinking which usually leads to conflict. Never intentionally does she mean to ignore, but it happens on many occasions. In the end, she genuinely loves her family and friends, as well as having good intentions, despite her severe lack of understanding at times.

Each year, Americans observe National Hispanic Heritage Month, by celebrating the histories, cultures and contributions of American citizens whose ancestors came from Spain, Mexico, and Latin America.
